What is frozen credit - Credit freezes get mixed up a lot with fraud alerts, but they are actually not alike at all. Fraud alerts occur when new creditors find out that you may have been a victim of fraud and they are then required to take extra steps to verify that they should be charging your account or opening a new account for you. These fraud alerts also kep you from receiving prescreened offers for credit and insurance.

Credit freezes are put in place by you, the consumer. Whether or not you are able to put a freeze on your credit may depend on where you live. Most states will allow anyone to put a freeze on their own credit and others only allow you to freeze your credit if you have been a victim of identity theft.

Some of the basics of a credit freeze include:

If your credit is frozen your credit report can still be updated by your creditors. Just because you have frozen your credit does not mean you can make late payments without paying the price.

A credit freeze only prevents new creditors from accessing your credit report. If your existing creditors want to take a look and see how you are paying your other creditors they can do so.

A credit freeze is made at your individual credit bureaus.

Removing the freeze from your credit, or “thawing” a credit freeze takes several day to take effect once initiated.

A credit freeze does not prevent you from using your credit cards. Your cards are not frozen, only the ability for new lenders to look at your credit card is frozen.

These are the basics of frozen credit. A credit freeze can help reduce your chances of being an identity theft victim. But remember if your goal is to avoid prescreened credit card offers or have creditors alerted to fraudulent activity on your account you will want to look into a fraud alert service, not a credit freeze.

Want to know how to do it, it’s actually easier than you think. First… just make a phone call.

Most of the time a short phone conversation with your credit card company can save you hundreds of dollars in interest fees. Have you ever heard the saying “the squeaky wheel gets the oil?” this applies to credit card APR as well.

This about it… Why would your credit card company lower your annual percentage rate if you don’t ask them too? Recently a study was held where fifty card holders with various types of credit scores called their credit card companies and asked for lower rates. Over half (56%) of them were given lower rates. MORE THAN HALF!

Looking for low interest rate credit cards? Use our credit card finder to view our pre-qualified list!

How low did the rates drop? The 28 people who successfully reduced their credit card apr saw their rate drop an average of 16%.

If you are currently locked into a credit card and you aren’t happy with your annual percentage rate pick up the phone and call your card holder. You may be only minutes away from saving a massive amount of money. If you are looking for a new credit card with a low APR rate please view the hand selected listing of cards below or click here to view the full list.

Credit Card Balance Transfer - If you carry a balance on your credit card currently a credit card balance transfer can give you the chance to pay off the balance you have right now and save some interest (which never hurts, right?).

A credit card balance transfer is just taking the balance that you have on your current credit card and transferring it to a new card that offers a lower interest rate than your existing one. Most of the time you can find cards that offer 0% interest for up to a year as well as free balance transfers. In the long run you can save huge.

With the economy currently in the toilet, a lot of us are looking for ways to lower our monthly expenses and a well thought out credit card balance transfer can definitely help to accomplish that goal. There are plenty of deals to choose from but finding the right one for you takes some work and research on your part. I’ll walk you through a few of the offers that I’ve seen lately.

Secure Credit Cards - Whether you like it or not, in this day and age you need to have a credit card. Getting approved for a card isn’t a problem for those with a clean credit history but what about everyone else? For those with less than perfect credit a secure credit cards are the way to go.

What are secure credit cards?
Instead of the card holder borrowing money from the credit company like most other cards secure credit cards require that you deposit money into your account and then spend against your balance. The exact amount of cash you’ll have to put up varies from card to card but generally you can expect a requirement between $200 and $500. This money that you put on your secure credit cards balance is your credit limit.

Who uses secure credit cards?
In general two key groups of people use secure credit cards. Those who are establishing credit for the first time and those who those who have had credit problems in the past and are looking to repair their credit rating.

When you use secure credit cards your payment history is reported to a credit bureau just like when you shop with a regular card. Yes, you’re actually establishing a credit history while using secure credit cards. (did a light bulb just go off?)

There are many choices when comparing secure credit cards to apply for. Most large banks offer their own secure credit cards but the benefits and plans differ, so watch closely. When applying for secure credit cards be sure to look for a low Annual Percentage Rate (APR), a decent Grace Period (the amount of time you have to pay your balance without paying interest), and a low annual fee.

By keeping those items in check, secure credit cards are a great type of card to own. Below we’ve included a few of the top-rated secure credit cards on the market. Choose one, click apply and begin building your credit today.

Credit cards with rewards used to be pretty rare and hard to find. In the past only card members with excellent credit or those that had their cards for very long periods of time could successfully get their hands on credit cards with rewards. Often, these rewards came in the form of checks or something like luggage. Today, most card companies offer several different types of credit cards with rewards that many of us can apply for.

Cards cards with rewards like cash back have become extremely valuable for shoppers as they receive a percentage of their purchase back every time they use the card. So every time you use your credit cards with rewards you’re increasing the size of your payment that you will receive back. Other credit cards with rewards offer discounts at hotels, airlines and gas stations. These kinds of rewards cards can also be extremely valuable.

We’ve put together a pre-selected list of Credit Cards with Rewards to help you find the card that’s right for you! Click here to view now.

The key is choosing the right credit cards with rewards that fit you as an individual. You have to find the card that offers the maximum amount of rewards that you can use the most. It may seem difficult at first considering all of the different types of credit cards with rewards that exist on the market but honestly, a lot of the time the rewards being offered are very similar, if not exactly the same.

Here’s something the card companies don’t want you to know.

About 90% of all credit cards with rewards offer the same reward, 1% cash back on your purchases. They may package it a little differently as points, hotel discounts, airline miles, etc but the truth is that the points or miles you receive are equal to about 1% of your purchase price. In the end all the rewards being offered still end up being that same 1%.

Your goal is to find the exceptions to this rule and get the most from your credit cards with rewards. There are cards out there that offer 1.5% cash back and by using a card like this you’ll earn 50% more rewards that you would with the other cards.

So read the details before you apply for credit cards with rewards to ensure that you’re getting the most bang for your buck. You can start right now by viewing our pre-selected list of credit cards with rewards.

Credit Card Comparisons & Cashback Credit Cards - Everyone likes a little extra cash right? Maybe you could use it to take yourself out to eat with someone or save for a rainy-day shopping trip or even a college fund for your child. Cashback credit cards are a great way to put a little money back in your pocket every time you use your card. The trick is finding the right cash back card… this is where credit card comparisons come in to play.

CashBack Credit Cards are great as long as…

They don’t carry a balance from month to month. Most cards that offer cash back have a higher interest rate and if misused this could wipe out any rewards you may have gotten by using the card, if you carry a balance. When doing your credit card comparisons be sure to look for this. Be sure that your cashback credit card isn’t going to end up actually costing you more money.

Money Educator Mary Campbell says, “The way for cash back to be a good option is if you are truly managing your credit cards where you are literally earning cash back but not turning around and paying it back in any other form.” The cash you receive from a rebate card should be viewed as a reward for all the hard work you have done in lowering your credit card debt and paying your balance in full each month.

Also, do credit card comparisons and look for a card that doesn’t have an annual fee. This can be avoided, there are several cash back credit cards that do not come with an annual fee, so why should you pay one? Again, credit card comparisons will help you avoid these offers.

Look to ensure that the card you apply for doesn’t require that you carry a balance, this is another red flag because the interest you pay will more than likely be more than the amount of cash you get back. Make sure that your cash back credit card is actually going to put money in your pocket and not take it out.

Using a credit card finder website, you can compare credit cards side by side and see which offer is the best for you. To use our card finder to perform some quick credit card comparisons before applying, click here.

With gas prices soaring to around $3.50 a gallon (and that’s for the CHEAP stuff) there has never been a time for finding yourself a solid gas rewards credit card. Prices of gasoline are getting higher every day and there’s no end in sight. Since you need gas to get where you need to go a search for gas rewards cards is a very smart and logical move.

Gas credit cards are definitely convenient, I mean who wants to walk inside and prepay for their gas with cash? Not me. And I dare you to find a gas station in any major city that allows customers to pump gas without prepaying with a credit card, it’s impossible.

Having a gas credit card is also a good way to keep track of your gas spending. This becomes even more important for businesses which pay their employees gas rebates when traveling. By using a gas credit card you are able to merely print out all of your gas purchase records and turn it in to your employer.

Gas cards also come with several types of gas rewards programs that help make the high prices of gasoline a little more easy to swallow because you know you’re getting a little something extra every time you fill up your tank. Some gas credit card rewards include:

Cash back programs on gas cards help you get back a percentage of what you put into your tank.

Get back on the road faster and easier when you can swipe the card at the pump.

Right now there are several gas credit card issuers that are offering gas-specific credit cards. If you already have decent credit it will be easier to get one but there are also may cards offered for people with average and below average credit as well.

Typically, gas rewards programs offer around 5 or 6% of your gas purchases back. The money is given back to you and applied to your credit card statement, or a check is sent through the mail. If you’re in the market for a new car purchase you may want to look at gas credit cards that offer car lease or purchase rewards programs to maximize your potential saving opportunities.

As with any type of credit card it is vital that you do some credit card comparisons using a credit card finder. We have assembled a list of fantastic gas rewards credit cards for you to compare, get started by clicking here.

Best Credit Card Rewards Programs - A new hot trend with credit cards right now is all the new and varied rewards programs that are being offered. These credit card rewards programs are growing in popularity and statistics show that people base their decisions on what credit card they choose to apply for and what credit card they use for certain purchases based on which has the best credit card rewards.

One major problem with credit card rewards programs is that a large portion of consumers and cardholders that take part in them don’t redeem their rewards for reasons such as forgetting, not wanting to bother or not understanding how.
The card companies offer credit card rewards as a way of promoting a particular card to increase it’s usage. But when cardholders don’t redeem points they negate any beneift they hoped to gain by using the card.

Ready to get started?:Click here to compare credit card rewards programs using our credit card finder.

There are many different types of rewards customers can enjoy through the programs and incentives offered by credit card companies. Some of these include cash-back rewards—a favorite and top choice among card holders and air travel mile rewards, gas rebates, shopping rewards, hotel rewards, gift certificates, free merchandise and members-only discounts.

The key is to find out exactly what type of rewards programs and incentives are offered by your current credit card company as well as other credit cards you might be interested in. Programs that offer low APR, interest rates, annual fees and other fees are certainly not to be overlooked.
